Before i comment on your article, It would be fair to say that from reading the resource-zone, you seem like one of the decent and kind editors, which can be seen clearly form your responses to questions by webmasters/owners.
Now, I and most other people believe that a dmoz listing is great for any website. Ranking, links, dmoz mirrors etc... But, I find that when the editors close the door on the whole subject of removing links upon request is very disturbing. I for one would remove suck a link right away from my website if asked through: (admin/webmaster/help/support)@AffectedDomain.tld
Not that I am obligated to do it, but its a common courtesy to remove it if the owner feels that its negatively affecting his/her site. and I believe most other directories and links administrators will honor such request as well.
How could Dmoz with their often flaunted social contract and spirit of the web, code of conduct, fair and ethical editors rants... refuse to comply with such reasonable requests.
I'm sure that such requests do not mount to any serious numbers, and can be handled easier than reviews where you have to check the website inside out and decide to list or not. There are "an army" of webmasters wanting to get in, why not remove the ones who want out, I don't think this is such a big deal. and maybe then you can be looked at as truly helping and not hindering and hurting websites. Whether you admit it or not, whether its true or not, its a common courtesy!
That's why the voices shouting <a href="http://www.DmozSucks.org" rel="nofollow"><b>DmozSucks</b></a> are increasing and this and many other unfair policies at dmoz coupled with the horrible attitudes of the Editors will make them even louder.

Reading this article made me think about the way the ODP editing system works. Could it be a little more fair? Could it be easier for editors? I wrote an article on what I think. Please spare some time to read it and share your comments.

That's an easy question - I remember looking at your site last year

The first thing to do is always read the suggest a site page- http://www.dmoz.org/add.html. Most of all read the two paragraphs:

# Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are sites that contain identical content, but have altogether different URLs.

# Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.

If you still want to submit your site after reading that, you would be making a very bad decision.

[I have no idea how many sites you have, I lost count, but IMO Google does not like this sort of stuff either]

I used a different email this time so maybe the spam trap wont get me. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to respond and I understand your point, better than I did before. I guess I will just keep trying to get accepted. There is no ulterior motive for me other than I enjoy working on challenging projects and giving back to the net that has given me so much enjoyment. I think I'll try the personal pages section this time and take it from there. Keep up the good work, I read everything on your site and gained some valuable information

Well, your comment got blocked again as another poker spam, but since you appear to have actually typed it in, rather than have it generated by some bot, I manully released it.

Back to the original comment. My impression is that many editors are let in routinely who actually are not up to standard, with the hope that once they start editing, they will improve. So it does not appear that hard to get in. I know when I was accepted, I realized after a month of editing, that my original application was full of errors but they let me in anyway.

A lot of very competant editors were not accepted with the first application, but had to try several times.

On the other hand I have seen some editors admitted to work on categories on which I also work and they have not proven to be a good choice, they do not catch on, and leave a trail of bad editing that I have to go and fix up. So even though there is a need for a lot more editors, the last thing we need is an editor who will just make more work for someone else.
